Swimming in the lakes

Within a radius of 15 km. from Wagrain you’ll find two lakes: one in Flachauwinkl and one in Eben. The lakes are certainly warm enough for a swim in the summer, and there are playgrounds, benches and at Eben there are sun loungers so you can enjoy an afternoon with the family.

1) Flachauwinkl

A refreshing swim awaits you in the lake Flachauwinkl. The lake is so clear that it has drinking water quality. The respective bathing area has a lawn for socializing and a playground for the children.

Distance: Wagrain – Flachauwinkl 15 km.

Swimming in Flachauwinkl is free and you also don’t pay for the wonderful view.

2) Eben

The idyllic lake Eben features spacious sunbathing areas with sun loungers, water slides, children’s pool, jumping bridge, beach volleyball and a restaurant with terrace. All in a relaxing environment for the sake of both the young and the adults.

Distance: Wagrain – Eben 14 km.

The lake is open from 09-19. There is an entrance fee, but children under 5 years are free.

A visit to Eisriesenwelt

You can also go on an adventure in an ice cave that will impress the whole family. In a small town, Werfen, 30 minutes from Wagrain, you’ll find the ice cave, Eisriesenwelt, which is the world’s largest ice cave. At first, you’ll have to take the lift up and then walk approx. 20 minutes before reaching the entrance and here you’ll be met with a unique sight. The turquoise blue walls and sparkling ice crystals form the frame of a magical ice palace, where the ice queen would feel at home. The temperature inside the cave is about 0 degrees – also in summer, so you’ll have to remember warm clothes and practical shoes as there are many stairs and a changing terrain. The guided tour takes about 75 minutes, but we recommend spending 3 hours on the trip as it takes some time to get up to the cave itself, but it is definitely worth it.

Visit Salzburg

Only an hour from Wagrain lies the big city of Salzburg, which was admitted to UNESCOs World Heritage list in 1996 to preserve its historical and musical center. Beautiful castles and buildings are well preserved despite World War II, the film legend Sound of Music has been recorded in Salzburg and you can visit the son of the city, Wolfgang Mozart, who is born in Salzburg. In July and August, the annual cultural festival is taking place and is a world-renowned music festival.

The city, however, offers more than music and history. You can also visit cafes, museums and go shopping in Salzburg.
